Saba

Meet Saba
A self-taught artist, Saba (born Csaba Korsos) moved to the Cayman Islands in 1992 to teach and was immediately inspired by Caymanian heritage, maritime scenes and local flora, which remain central themes in his work.
Saba's painting deserves to be mentioned among the most interesting and promising oil paintings within contemporary art. His creations have long been attracting the attention of art critics from Cayman Islands, Hungary, USA, Ireland, and England.
The artist has, during the last 20 years, developed an extremely personal style with energetic brush strokes and powerful expression, which casts a spell over the viewer and leads him into an outstanding universe of paintings.
Saba won 2nd prize for his entry in the "Wreck of the Ten Sails" competition organized by the Cayman Island Visual Arts Society and the Cayman National Museum. This award gave him the honor of being the first Hungarian artist whose work has hung in the Cayman National Museum. Saba has been exhibiting his works regularly in group shows on the island. He held his first independant show in December of 1996. In 1998, Saba won 1st prize in the "Dramatic Light in Artwork" Competition organized by the Cayman Islands Visual Arts Society. In January 1999 he was Artist of the Month on Cayman News 27 television program. He is very proud of his large scale Untitled sculpture The Bananas. His paintings have been selected for the Permanent Collection of the Cayman Islands National Museum.
The artist, whosereal name is Csaba Korsos, chose to remove the letter 'C' from his name both for practical reasons, ("people never know how to pronounce it") and for romantic, "Saba is the name of another Caribbean Island. This name, for me conjures up Caribbean colors, moods and feelings. Saba’s work is currently displayed in the Kennedy Gallery.
