Iain MacRae

Meet Iain
Iain MacRae is a contemporary artist born in Grand Cayman to Scottish parents. His work tackles tough topics with strong, and unapologetic opinions. Solo exhibitions include “Taobh Thiar De Na Cnamh (Behind The Bones)” (Parcel 110, Grand Cayman, 2021), and “gov.ky” (The Gallery, Camana Bay, Grand Cayman). His use of color and often brash brush strokes, along with text convey his process, which is somewhat of a fight with his piece, going through hard to feel emotions in order to produce relatability. His work reflects his defiance for things considered to be ‘beautiful’ and ‘done right’. Believing beauty can be found more within pain and exploring the structure and process, as opposed to the final piece. MacRae produced a collection of works named “Taobh Thiar De Na Cnamh (Behind The Bones)” which was exhibited at Parcel 110 in April of 2021, as well as featuring in another exhibition put together by Parcel 110 earlier that year. Since, MacRae has been featured in the 2nd and 3rd Biennial exhibitions, hosted by the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, as well as, their most recent exhibition, “81 degrees west”. He has also held his second solo exhibition, “gov.ky”, at The Gallery, Camana Bay (December 2023).
